Now that you’re on the path to a healthier lifestyle, you may be wondering, “How do I incorporate more exercise into my day?” To start, you might want to add 30 minutes of exercise a day to your routine (with a couple of rest days, of course). One of the easiest ways to do this is to walk. Incorporate more steps into your day. To track how much walking you do in a day, get a pedometer or other similar device that can track your movement.
Walking is not just an easy form of exercise, it can help your body do a number of things. It can help improve your cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, help you lose weight, increase your energy and stamina, and improve the overall health of your heart and cardiovascular system.
So, how do you incorporate more walking into your daily routine?
To start, you can walk to work. If the distance is too far, park further away from your office if you are driving. If you take the train or bus, get off at an earlier stop and walk the rest of the way.
Walk during your lunch hour. After you’ve eaten, take a walk, whether it be inside or outside. This will regulate your blood sugar in addition to getting you some exercise.
Do some window shopping. Take a trip to the mall and walk from one end to the other on all levels. You’d be surprised how much distance you actually cover.
Do you have a dog? Take your dog for a walk around the neighborhood or take them to the park. If it’s close enough, you can walk there too!
Do you travel often? Take a walk through the terminal before your flight boards. When you land at your destination, walk around the baggage claim while you wait for your luggage.
If you’re at the office, and you need to see someone on another floor of your building, take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Charge your phone in the furthest room of your home. Not only do you have to walk all the way across your home to charge it, you have to do the same to go pick it up when it’s fully charged.
How often do you go to the supermarket? Once or twice a week? Don’t bring your bags in all at once. Make it into a walk and bring them in one at a time.
Pace while you talk on the phone. The longer the call, the more steps you can take!
Join a walking group. Not only will you meet new people, you will also have fun while you’re walking, which makes the task more enjoyable.
These are just some of the ways that you can incorporate more exercise into your day. There are plenty of other options available as well. We hope that we’ve been able to help you find activities that will help you to achieve your fitness goals.
Sincerely,
